Del Rio, Texas - U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Del Rio Station seized 92 pounds of marijuana, valued at more than $73,000.
Wednesday afternoon, a couple in a 1995 Ford Thunderbird entered the immigration checkpoint north of Del Rio on Highway 277. The couple, both United States citizens, were referred to a secondary inspection area after a Border Patrol canine team alerted on the vehicle. While inspecting the car, agents noted physical discrepancies in the vehicle's trunk consistent with hidden contraband compartments. Agents subsequently discovered 40 bundles of marijuana concealed behind the rear passenger seats. Both subjects were arrested and turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration along with the contraband and vehicle.
