Del Rio Border Patrol Agents Seize Assault Rifles, Ammo, Magazines

Del Rio, TX. - U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Del Rio Station Thursday seized a total of 23 high-caliber assault rifles, nearly 5,000 rounds of ammunition, and a handful of ammunition magazines.

Thursday morning, agents observed six individuals wade across the Rio Grande River and walk up to a subject in a 1993 Oldsmobile stopped on the side of the road. As agents approached them, the six subjects absconded back to Mexico. The vehicle contained 23 rifles - AK-47 and AR-15 style weapons - along with approximately 5,000 rounds and five ammunition magazines. The total value of the seizure was estimated at $27,000.

The subject and contraband were turned over to the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations.
