DEL RIO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Del Rio Sector are remaining vigilant in their role of protecting our local communities. In the past several weeks agents in the Del Rio Sector have apprehended three convicted sex offenders.

The most recent apprehension occurred June 12 in Carrizo Springs. Agents from the Carrizo Springs Station were conducting linewatch duties when they encountered Francisco Ruiz-Mecinas, 48, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico. During processing, agents discovered that Ruiz-Mecinas had been previously arrested by the Los Angeles Police department and convicted of Assault to Commit Rape. He was sentenced to four years in prison and was subsequently removed from the United States on July 12, 2004.

On June 11, agents from the Brackettville Border Patrol Station were patrolling near Spofford when they encountered Miguel Jimenez-Hernandez, 37, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico. During processing, agents discovered that Jimenez-Hernandez had been previously deported from the United States and was a convicted sex offender. Criminal records checks revealed Jimenez-Hernandez had a 2005 conviction in Polk County, Iowa for Indecent Contact with a Child and was sentenced to two years of incarceration. He had been previously removed from the United States to Mexico on Sept. 14, 2000.

On May 25, Eagle Pass South Station agents apprehended a convicted sex offender while patrolling near the Eagle Pass Port of Entry. They encountered Mauro Brito-Bojorque, 29, an undocumented immigrant from Ecuador. During processing, agents discovered that Brito-Bojorque had been previously deported from the United States and was convicted of Sex Acts Against a Child (Fondling) in 2005 out of Lake County, Florida.

All of the subjects face a charge of illegal entry – 8 USC 1326 – and their prior orders of removal will be reinstated.

For Fiscal Year 2014, Del Rio Sector agents have apprehended a total of 23 convicted sex offenders. The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is part of the South Texas Campaign, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations.
