DEL RIO, TEXAS—U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Del Rio Station apprehended a convicted sex offender on Wednesday.
Agents patrolling near the Del Rio Checkpoint on U.S. Highway 277 encountered Rolando Esparza-Reyes, 30, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico. During processing, agents discovered that Esparza-Reyes had been previously deported from the United States and was a convicted sex offender. Criminal records checks revealed Esparza-Reyes had a 2005 conviction out of Houston for aggravated criminal sexual assault and was sentenced to eight years of incarceration.
Esparza-Reyes faces a charge of illegal entry - 8 USC 1326 - and his prior order of removal will be reinstated.
