Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Black History Month Youth Program Features Award-winning Actor & Author, Hill Harper

INDIANAPOLIS - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Steward Speakers Inc. in conjunction with Olivet Missionary Baptist Church., will host a National Black History Celebration featuring Hill Harper, an award-winning actor, best- selling author, philanthropist, and political advocate. This annual, youth-oriented, community outreach event will be held on Monday, February 12, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Olivet Missionary Baptist Church, 4141 North High School Road, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46254. This program will also include special guest: Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett, Congressman Andre Carson, 7th District of Indiana and Anselm Beach, Acting Executive Director for the Privacy and Diversity Office, Office of the Commissioner.

Harper starred on the hit CBS drama CSI: NY, HLN’s How It Really Happened with Hill Harper, and Showtime's award-winning series Homeland. This fall, Harper began his role as Dr. Marcus Andrews on the highly-anticipated new show The Good Doctor on ABC. Hill Harper, is an award-winning actor, best- selling author, philanthropist, and political advocate. He has earned seven NAACP Image awards for his writing and acting; and, is a New York Times best-selling author for his books: Letters to a Young Brother (which was also named “Best Book for Young Adults” by the American Library Association in 2007), Letters to a Young Sister, and The Conversation. Harper founded the Manifest Your Destiny Foundation, which is dedicated to empowering, encouraging, and inspiring underserved youth to succeed through mentorship, scholarship and grant programs. In addition to all the things he’s done to become a well-known personality, Mr. Harper also has made time to use his resources and his voice as a motivational speaker who stresses the importance of education and motivates youth to be the architects of their lives.

It is through these partnerships and community programs, that we our duty to influence and impact the youth of our future by exposing them to notable role models,” said Darlene M. Sedwick, (A) Director, Diversity and EEO Division, CBP Privacy and Diversity Office. “For more than 27 years, we have partnered with Steward Speakers Inc., and 11 years with the Olivet Missionary Baptist Church with a primary goal of uplifting, enlightening and empowering our youth. This year, we will continue on that path.”

The CBP Privacy and Diversity Office provides EEO, diversity and inclusion, and civil rights/civil liberties services to almost 60,000 CBP employees and to the hundreds of millions of travelers and members of the trade and traveling community that CBP interacts with in the performance of our homeland security mission.
