CBP Seizes Dope Stuffed in Tailgate, Spare Tire

TUCSON, Ariz. – A 41-year-old Mexican national was arrested Aug. 26 for attempting to smuggle nearly 87 pounds of marijuana through the Port of Douglas.

Sixty-one packages of marijuana in truck tailgate

CBP officers at the Port of Douglas referred a vehicle for further inspection and located 61 packages of marijuana within the tailgate.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers referred Luis Francisco German-Martinez of Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico for a more thorough search of his Chevrolet truck.

During the search, officers found 61 packages of marijuana concealed within the tailgate and spare tire of the vehicle. The marijuana’s estimated value exceeded $43,000.

German was referred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations. The drugs and vehicle were seized.
