CBP Quick and Easy Trusted Traveler Global Entry Program Arrives at Charlotte-Douglas Airport

Release Date:
March 16, 2012

CHARLOTTE, N.C.—On Thursday, March 15, U.S. Customs and Border Protection held a Global Entry program ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Global Entry trusted traveler program at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport. Joining CBP officials were partners and stakeholders from local, federal, congressional, transportation and travel communities who took part in the ceremony to commemorate the expansion of this program which will benefit frequent international travelers.

Global Entry is a voluntary expedited clearance initiative for pre-approved low risk international travelers coming into the U.S. Members of the program are processed in seconds using biometric identification at dedicated Global Entry kiosks and do not have to wait in line with other passengers for entry processing by a CBP officer. More than 245,000 members have enrolled in Global Entry thus far.

"It is the quick and easy way for honest travelers to get out of line, cut their average wait time by 70 percent and get an express pass through the U.S. international arrivals area, letting CBP officers concentrate on travelers that really need our attention," said Patricia Fitzpatrick, Charlotte CBP Area Port Director. "Announced as a pilot program in 2008, Global Entry was established as a permanent voluntary program this year. It now operates at 20 top U.S. airports and has recently been expanded to four additional airports in Minneapolis, Charlotte, Denver and Phoenix."

U.S. nationals or U.S. Lawful Permanent Residents may apply for this trusted traveler program. Persons under the age of 18 who meet the general eligibility criteria and have the consent of a parent or legal guardian will be eligible to participate in Global Entry as well. Applications must be completed and submitted on line through the Global On-line Enrollment System (GOES) at CBP.gov. A non-refundable $100 per person application fee is payable on-line at the time of the application and is good for five years. Your application information will be reviewed by CBP and an initial background check will be conducted to make sure you are eligible to become a member of Global Entry. Participants are still subject to additional inspections at any time in the CBP process.

Global Entry members will also be eligible to participate in other programs including TSA Pre Check and the Fast Low Risk Universal Crossing (FLUX) program, available in Amsterdam. Additional information is available at the Global Entry website.
