TUCSON, Ariz. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, officers arrested a U.S. citizen for an alleged attempt to smuggle nearly 390 pounds of marijuana through the Raul Hector Castro Port of Entry in Douglas, Arizona, on Tuesday.

Officers referred a 41-year-old Douglas, Arizona, man for additional inspection of his GMC SUV, as he attempted to enter the U.S. through the port. Following a positive alert by a CBP narcotics detection canine to a scent it is trained to detect, the search of his vehicle led the officers to nearly 300 packages of drugs throughout the vehicle, which were determined to be 389 pounds of marijuana, worth almost $117,000.
Officers seized the drugs and vehicle, while the subject was arrested and then turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
