NOGALES, Ariz. – An adult Mexican male was arrested Monday for attempting to smuggle approximately 4.5 pounds of methamphetamine through the Port of Nogales, hidden inside an accordion.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Morley Gate crossing took 18-year-old Eloy Renteria-Ortiz into custody after finding almost $13,600 worth of meth wrapped in black tape and stashed in the center of the musical instrument.
The drugs and instrument were seized. Renteria was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
