MASSENA, N.Y. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Massena Port of Entry discovered personal use marijuana, amphetamine and various drug paraphernalia in possession of a 56 year-old Native American residing in Canada.

On Tuesday, CBP officers encountered a 56 year-old Native American female who appeared nervous and was visibly shaking during a primary inspection. CBP officers then referred the subject for secondary inspection and discovered 0.17 grams of an amphetamine pill, 0.16 grams of marijuana, a digital scale with white-powder-residue, three tubes resembling pipes, a spoon and 14 baggies all containing cocaine residue. Additionally, the subject appeared to be under the influence during the inspection and the New York State Police responded to conduct standardized field sobriety testing (SFST).

After processing, the subject and narcotics were turned over to New York State Police in order to face charges of Driving while Ability Impaired by Drugs, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Criminally using Drug Paraphernalia

“Our CBP officers utilized their keen observational analysis skills to determine the need to refer the subject for further inspection which led to the discovery of the illicit narcotics and paraphernalia,” said Massena Port Director Bob Dwyer. “Through our continued strong partnership with the New York State Police, this impaired driver in possession of narcotics was removed from the streets of our community.”
