CBP Officers in Champlain N.Y. Arrest Fugitive Wanted by the FBI

Champlain, N.Y. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced the arrest of a United States citizen, wanted by the FBI for multiple crimes to include capital murder.

On April 25, CBP Officers working at the Champlain, New York border crossing encountered 52-year-old James Whittlesey, from Joppa, Maryland. Whittlesey was wanted by the FBI for multiple violent crime charges including aggravated bank robbery, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony crime, felony possession of a firearm during the commission of a bank robbery and attempted capital murder of a police officer. Whittlesey was found in Canada and deported back to the United States by Canadian authorities.

Upon his arrival at the Port of Champlain, CBP officers verified the validity of the warrant and confirmed extradition. Whittlesey was arrested by CBP and turned over to the custody of the FBI for extradition.
