CHAMPLAIN, N.Y. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Champlain Port of Entry arrested a 37-year-old male identified as Juan Carlos Alcantara- Rivas, who was wanted out of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania on a Failure to Appear warrant.  The subject failed to appear for his sentencing in Pennsylvania after being convicted of two counts each of Aggravated Indecent Assault without Consent and Corruption of Minors.

On Tuesday, CBP officers encountered Alcantara-Rivas who was returned to the United States by the Canada Border Services Agency, under deportation orders.

During the secondary inspection, the subject’s identity was verified and a fugitive from justice warrant, issued out of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and Chambersburg Police Department was also confirmed.

“Our CBP officers worked in coordination with our Canada Border Services Agency partners to ensure this dangerous fugitive was detained and turned over to the appropriate authorities,” said Champlain Area Port Director Steven Bronson. “This is a prime example of CBP’s important role in the law enforcement community.”

After processing, the subject was turned over to New York State Police, charged with Failure to Appear and awaits extradition.
