ALEXANDRIA BAY, N.Y. – Yesterday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Alexandria Bay port of entry arrested a man after the discovery of illegal drugs during a vehicle search.
CBP officers encountered Cayo Whyte, a 39-year-old male, Jamaican citizen, at the Alexandria Bay port of entry. Whyte was attempting admission into the United States as a visitor for pleasure. During routine secondary processing, CBP officers performed a vehicle search and discovered just over .50 grams of methamphetamine, a pipe with residue, and two separate containers with residue.
“CBP Officers are the first line of defense and work diligently to prevent persons who would break our laws from entering the country,” said Area Port Director Tim Walker. “This is an excellent example of the strong working relationship we have with our state law enforcement partners to ensure a traveler who violates the law faces justice.”
The narcotics and paraphernalia were seized, and along with Whyte, were turned over to the New York State Police to face charges.
