BUFFALO, N.Y. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Peace Bridge arrested a 37 year-old Illinois man after officers discovered the subject to be in possession of three credit cards that had been re-coded with other individual’s identities and information.
On Tuesday, CBP officers encountered a 37 year-old U.S. citizen who was returning from Canada after being denied entry by the Canadian Border Services Agency. CBP officers then referred the subject for secondary inspection and discovered three credit cards that contained identities and information of several individuals. Contact was made with the various credit card companies who confirmed that the credit cards were being attempted to be used fraudulently. Additionally, the subject admitted to CBP officers of using an alias and attempted use of the credit cards for personal benefit.
After processing, the subject was turned over to New York State Police in order to face felony charges of Forged Instrument Possession.
“The seizures of fraudulent credit cards are just another example of the expertise and skills our CBP officers possess,” said Acting Buffalo Director of Field Operations LaFonda Sutton-Burke. “With the holidays approaching and a busy time of year for shoppers, the officers involved in this case were able to prevent innocent people from being victims of identity theft.”
