“CBP Officers continue to detect and seize this highly dangerous drug at the port of entry before it enters the United States,” said Troy Miller, CBP's Director of the New York Field Office. “This latest seizure shows the determination and dedication of our CBP Officers to keep these dangerous drugs out of our neighborhoods.”

Approximately 10 oz. of MDMA was seized, with an estimated street value of $4,725. The shipment was from Germany and was destined for California. This is the 80th seizure of MDMA in fiscal year 2019, with a total weight of 86 lbs. and an estimated street value approaching $700,000.

MDMA (Methylenedioxymethamphetamine) is a synthetic drug that acts as a stimulant and hallucinogen. It produces an energizing effect, distortions in time and perception, and enhanced enjoyment from sensory experiences. It has also been described as an entactogen—a drug that can increase self-awareness and empathy.
