CBP Field Operations Seizes Over $1 Million Worth of Narcotics at Pharr International Bridge

PHARR, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility arrested two men from Mexico after discovering $1,302,000 worth of alleged cocaine and marijuana in two separate, unrelated incidents.

“Our officers have once again demonstrated great awareness and diligence with the interception of these two outstanding seizures of narcotics at our cargo facility,” said Port Director Efrain Solis Jr., Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry. “Balancing the trade facilitation aspect of cargo processing with an enforcement mindset is a function of CBP Field Operations that is accomplished on a daily basis.”

The first seizure occurred on May 17, at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge cargo facility after a 26-year-old man from Nuevo Leon, Mexico arrived in a commercial truck with merchandise.  CBP officers inspected the shipment, and with the assistance of a canine team, they were able to discover 60 packages of alleged marijuana concealed within the truck. CBP OFO seized the 685 pounds of marijuana, valued at $137,000 and seized the truck as well.

Later that evening, a 51-year-old man from Michoacán, Mexico arrived hauling a commercial shipment of fresh mangos. A CBP officer referred the conveyance for further inspection, which included a non-intrusive imaging system exam and subsequently 60 packages of alleged cocaine weighing approximately 151 pounds were discovered. CBP OFO seized the conveyance and the drugs, valued at nearly $1,165,000.

CBP Field Operations arrested both men and ultimately turned them over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents for further investigation.
