HIDALGO, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Hidalgo International Bridge arrested a man and woman from Mexico after determining that the entry documents they presented to enter the United States did not belong to them.

“Our officers’ keen sense of awareness and their ability to detect anomalies in their work environment enabled them to discover this attempted violation of U.S. immigration law,” said Port Director Sylvia Briones, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.

On July 27, in two separate unrelated incidents, CBP officers working at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge pedestrian walkway encountered a 26-year-old man from Morelos, Mexico and a 20-year-old woman from Mexico City attempting to enter the U.S. utilizing someone else’s documents.  In both incidents, officers noted discrepancies with the border crossing cards being presented and referred the travelers to secondary for further inspection.  Once in secondary, officers determined that the documents were valid but that the persons presenting them were not the rightful owners of those documents. The two persons are citizens of Mexico without valid documents to legally enter or reside in the United States.

CBP OFO arrested both individuals and presented them before a U.S. federal magistrate on charges of alleged violation of U.S. immigration law.
