CBP Arrests U.S Citizen Found in Possession of a .40 Caliber Glock 27
BUFFALO, N.Y. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Peace Bridge Port of Entry arrested a 24-year-old male United States citizen from Kentucky who was in possession of an illegal firearm.
Yesterday, CBP officers encountered a male who allegedly made a wrong turn onto the Peace Bridge and traversed to the Canadian side of the bridge. Upon reaching the Canadian side, the driver communicated to Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers that he inadvertently traveled to Canada after a wrong turn onto the Peace Bridge. The Kentucky man was subsequently sent back to the United States by CBSA officers. Upon inspection the driver did not possess a passport and was referred to secondary inspection. Upon secondary inspection the driver failed to declare to CBP officers that he possessed a .40 caliber Glock handgun. The firearm was discovered by CBP officers secreted under a mattress in the berthing-area of the tractor he was operating.
“The removal of an illegally possessed firearm from our streets illustrates how U.S. Customs and Border Protection continues to work alongside our local law enforcement partners to help keep our communities safe,” said Acting Area Port Director Sharon Swiatek.
During processing, CBP officers also discovered through a National Crime Information Center (NCIC) inquiry that the U.S. citizen had felony weapons and narcotics charges pending in Cedar City, Utah. Upon completion of processing, the weapon, ammunition and Kentucky man was turned over to local law enforcement in order to face felony charges for possession of a weapon.
