BUFFALO, N.Y. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Lewiston Bridge arrested two U.S. citizens in the early morning hours of October 7.

CBP officers encountered two male subjects, age 19 and age 16, in a rental vehicle at the bridge. The subjects stated they made a wrong turn onto the bridge after dropping off a family member at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston, N.Y. The subjects made a U-turn on the Lewiston Bridge before reaching Canada. Neither subject was in possession of any identification or driver’s license.
A search of the subjects’ vehicle resulted in the discovery of a loaded .357 handgun in the glovebox. CBP officers also found a loaded .380 handgun under the front seat, as well as 8.8 grams of marijuana and 5.1 grams of cocaine. The serial numbers on the .380 handgun had been filed off.
The Lewiston Police Department was contacted by CBP, and arrived at the Lewiston Bridge to take custody of the two subjects, along with the firearms, ammunition, marijuana, and cocaine.
“CBP officers are trained to identify the many signs that call for careful inspection of suspicious individuals arriving at the U.S. border, said Port Director Cary Frieling. “The transportation of illegal guns and drugs over the U.S. border will always be prosecuted to the fullest extent of our laws.”
