Anzalduas, Texas—Officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Anzalduas International Bridge discovered $1,556,000 worth of methamphetamine that was hidden within a Ford Sport Trac SUV driven by a man from Queretaro, Mexico.

“This was a great interception of hard narcotics that was kept from entering into our communities,” said Efrain Solis Jr., Port Director, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas. “Working to keep these dangerous drugs from crossing our international borders is paramount with CBP Field Operations and our officers are constantly combating this threat.”
On Saturday afternoon, Sept 20, CBP officers working at the Anzalduas-Reynosa International Bridge encountered a silver 2010 Ford Sport Trac driven by a 25-year-old male Mexican citizen. After presenting his Mexican passport with U.S. visa, he was referred to secondary for further inspection. During the process of inspecting the SUV and with the use of a vehicle non-intrusive imaging system, officers discovered packages of suspected narcotics hidden within the Sport Trac. CBP officers removed and seized 22 packages of alleged methamphetamine weighing approximately 48.63 pounds and seized the vehicle as well.
CBP-OFO arrested the man who was then released to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents for further investigation.
CBP is part of the South Texas Campaign, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations.
