Caught with Fentanyl and Meth, Smugglers Risk Public Safety for Profit

TUCSON, Ariz. – U.S. Border Patrol agents working the Interstate 19 Immigration Checkpoint near Amado arrested a pair of Tucsonans smuggling fentanyl and meth Wednesday afternoon.

Tucson Sector agents encountered the U.S. citizens driving a Honda Civic through the primary inspection lane. After referring them to secondary inspection, agents discovered the 24-year-old female passenger was concealing two bundles of pills within body cavities. One bundle contained 141.2 grams of the potentially deadly opioid fentanyl, the other 3.2 grams of meth.

The vehicle and drugs were seized. The woman remains in custody pending federal drug smuggling charges; the 30-year-old male driver, though released, also faces possible charges.
