DEL RIO, TEXAS—U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Carrizo Springs station apprehended a convicted sex offender Monday morning.
Agents patrolling south of Catarina near the Web and Dimmit County line encountered Alexis Zavala-Yañez, 47, an undocumented immigrant from Honduras. During processing, agents discovered that Yañez had been previously deported from the United States and was a registered sex offender. Criminal records checks revealed Yañez has a 2009 conviction out of Mineola County in New York for rape and served seven months on that charge.
Yañez will be processed for removal from the United States and his prior order of removal will be reinstated.
