TUCSON, Ariz. – Casa Grande Border Patrol agents arrested two female U.S. citizens Monday evening, after finding two illegal aliens in the trunk of their vehicle at the Federal Route 15 immigration checkpoint near Komelik.

Agents referred the 24-year-old driver of a Nissan Maxima and the 23-year-old passenger for further inspection after a canine alerted to an odor it was trained to detect. A search of the vehicle revealed two Guatemalan males, ages 29 and 35, concealed inside the trunk.

Agents seized the vehicle after arresting the women for human smuggling and the illegal aliens for immigration violations.

Border Patrol continues to warn that people can die or become seriously injured when placed inside vehicle trunks and compartments not meant for human travel. A lack of oxygen, extreme temperatures, carbon monoxide poisoning and vehicle collisions pose serious risks to passengers attempting to avoid detection.
