Cocaine
Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents arrested
a man smuggling over 7 pounds of cocaine.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., agents referred a Ford Expedition with California plates to the secondary inspection area of the checkpoint following a canine alert. A search of the vehicle revealed three vacuum-sealed and taped packages of cocaine inside a duffel bag on the vehicle’s rear passenger seat. The cocaine weighed 7.7 pounds, which has an estimated street value of nearly $54,000.

Agents removed a handgun from the waistband of the driver upon initial contact with him and later found him to be in possession of personal-use methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Agents arrested the driver, a 38-year-old U.S. citizen, and seized the narcotics, the handgun with two loaded magazines and the vehicle.
