Calexico, Calif. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Calexico downtown port of entry on Thursday discovered approximately $96,000 worth of methamphetamine concealed inside the dashboard of a vehicle.

The incident occurred October 31, shortly before 12:10 p.m. when CBP officers encountered a 25-year-old female Mexican citizen as she waited in line for inspection. A detector dog screened the vehicle and alerted. Officers escorted the driver and vehicle for a more in-depth examination.

CBP officers conducted an intensive inspection and discovered seven wrapped packages of methamphetamine concealed inside a specially built compartment in the dashboard. The total weight of narcotic was eight pounds.

The driver, a resident of Mexicali, Baja California, was arrested and turned over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents for further processing.

The subject was later transported to the Imperial County Jail where she awaits arraignment.

CBP seized the vehicle and narcotics.
