Brownsville CBP Encourages Use of Online I-94 Application for Travelers Seeking a Travel Permit

BROWNSVILLE, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection Port of Brownsville encourages visitors to beat the rush and avoid delays by obtaining their tourist travel permits online. Travelers may apply and pay for their I-94 online prior to arriving at a land port of entry. Travelers can speed up their entry into the U.S. by providing their biographic and travel information, and paying the $6 fee for their I-94 application online at the I-94 website up to seven days prior to their entry.

“This is an excellent way for our visitors to expedite their entry when applying for their travel permit,” said Port Director Petra Horne, Brownsville Port of Entry. “The online process increases the efficiency of the entry process and reduces the wait time for travelers requiring an I-94.”

If the traveler does not complete their I-94 issuance process within seven days of their online application, their provisional I-94 will expire and they will have to reapply and the pay the fee again. There are no refunds if the I-94 is not issued within the seven-day period.

CBP also encourages travelers to obtain and utilize radio-frequency identification technology (RFID)-equipped travel documents such as U.S. passport cards and the newer versions of the border crossing card and resident alien card so that they can utilize Ready Lanes.

Travelers may also monitor Border Wait Times at http://bwt.cbp.gov or download the BWT app on their smartphone via Apple App Store and Google Play to look for the crossing with the shortest wait times. These wait times are updated on an hourly basis. CBP reminds the public that they may utilize the Los Indios International Bridge as an alternate route.

CBP encourages travelers to declare all agricultural items to a CBP officer to avoid delays and potential fines due to bringing prohibited or restricted agricultural items. Travelers may also consult the Know Before You Visit webpage.
