Border Patrol Seizes More Than $715K in Narcotics in less Than 24 Hours in the Rio Grande Valley

EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol agents keep nearly 900 pounds of marijuana from reaching our communities.

On Thursday, Weslaco agents on patrol near San Juan, Texas, observed shoe prints on a trail just north of the Rio Grande. The agents followed the prints towards the vicinity of an abandoned barn where they located five bundles of marijuana hidden in the brush. Agents searched the area for the smugglers and additional drugs to no avail. The marijuana weighed over 136 pounds, worth an estimated $109K.

That same night, Rio Grande City agents working near Garciasville, Texas, received information of a vehicle laden with narcotics traveling north from the Rio Grande towards a nearby residence. After arriving at the home, Border Patrol contacted the Starr County High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force and requested their assistance. Upon arrival, the Starr County HIDTA Task Force officers and Border Patrol agents entered the home and discovered nearly 759 pounds of marijuana worth nearly $607K.
