SALTON CITY, Calif. – El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents working at the Highway 86 immigration checkpoint arrested two individuals attempting to smuggle narcotics and cash Saturday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:58 a.m., when a 2002 black Acura Integra with two occupants approached the checkpoint. A Border Patrol canine detection team alerted to the vehicle. The vehicle was placed aside for further investigation.
During the more intensive inspection, Border Patrol agents discovered a package inside of a backpack in the trunk of the vehicle. An additional package was found inside of a cosmetic bag with a stack of cash next to it. The substance inside the packages tested positive for the characteristics of methamphetamine.
The total weight of the narcotics discovered was 3.92 pounds of methamphetamine with an estimated value of $8,820 and the cash bills alongside the narcotics totaled $1,400.
The subjects, both adult United States citizens, the narcotics, the vehicle, and money were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
