Border Patrol rescues climb to 300 in Fort Bend County

EDINBURG, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents deployed to Houston, Texas immediately went into action and rescued more than 300 people, as of Tuesday morning, left stranded as Hurricane Harvey pummeled the Gulf Coast.

The Rio Grande Valley Sector, joined by both Del Rio and Laredo Sector marine units, deployed riverine units to assist in rescue and recovery efforts along the Texas Coastal Regions. Within a three hour time frame on Monday evening, marine agents assigned to the Weslaco Station evacuated 125 to safety after being trapped by heavy flooding.

Our agents will continue to focus on rescue efforts and assisting in the federal response to Hurricane Harvey,” said Chief Patrol Agent Manuel Padilla, Jr. “Our personnel will remain in the affected areas supporting the people of Houston as long as we are needed.”
