CHAMPLAIN, N.Y. - U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Champlain Border Patrol Station, Swanton Sector arrested two Albanian Nationals who entered the U.S. illegally after their visa requests were denied.

Shortly, before 2 a.m. on November 13, the Swanton Border Patrol Sector Tactical Communications Center advised agents assigned to the Champlain Border Patrol Station of activity along the U.S. and Canada border in the area of Champlain, N.Y.  Agents responded to the location and encountered two Albanian Nationals, a 37-year old male and 41-year old female, walking along a rural road.

During the field interview, agents determined the two subjects were illegally present in the U.S. and had recently entered the U.S. illegally from Canada.  As the field interview continued a vehicle passed their location. Noting an inconsistency with typical activity on an early Sunday morning, the responding agents contacted additional agents to investigate. Information gleaned from the subsequent vehicle stop is being further investigated for possible involvement in the event.

Both Albanian Nationals encountered were arrested and transported to the Champlain Border Patrol Station for further investigation.  Record checks revealed both subjects had recently applied for U.S. Visas in Albania but that their requests had been denied.  The subjects are being held in lieu of bond pending their prosecution for 8 USC 1325 Entry Without Inspection and their removal from the U.S.

“The quick work and assessment of the situation by responding agents successfully thwarted this illegal border crossing attempt,” said Patrol Agent in Charge Norman Lague of the Champlain Station.
