SAN DIEGO— U.S. Border Patrol agents working near the U.S./Mexico International Border arrested two convicted sex offenders who had entered the United States illegally Thursday. Both men had felony convictions for sex crimes with a minor.
The first incident occurred on Thursday at approximately 8:30 p.m., when Border Patrol agents spotted two men approximately 75 yards north of the U.S./Mexico International Boundary near the Tecate Port of Entry. Agents responded and determined the men to be illegally present in the U.S. Agents transported the men to a nearby station.
Record checks revealed that one of the men, a 45-year-old Mexican national, had a prior felony conviction for “lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14” out of the state of California.
The aggravated felon faces charges for reentry after deportation and is being held in Federal custody pending prosecution. The second man, also a Mexican national, is subject to expedited removal and will be returned to Mexico.
The second incident occurred at approximately 9 p.m., on Thursday evening in Imperial Beach. Agents arrested two men who entered the U.S. illegally, approximately 250 yards north of the U.S./Mexico International Boundary. Both men were transported to a nearby station for processing.
Record checks revealed that one of the men, a 26-year-old El Salvadoran national, had a prior felony conviction for “child molestation in the first degree” and an active felony warrant for “molestation of a minor,” both out of the state of Washington.
The aggravated felon faces charges for reentry after deportation and is being held in Federal custody pending prosecution. The second man, also an El Salvadoran national, is subject to removal and will be processed accordingly.
