Border Patrol Arrests Man Convicted of Attempted Murder and Another Convicted as a Sex Offender

CALEXICO, Calif. – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Sector arrested two convicted aggravated felons previously removed from the United States on two separate arrests last week.

 

The first incident occurred on Friday, Sept 27 at around 5 p.m., when agents assigned to the El Centro Station encountered a man suspected of illegally entering the United States approximately 22 miles west of the Calexico West Downtown Port of Entry.  Agents arrested the man and transported him to the El Centro Station for immigration and criminal history screening.

Agents conducted records checks, which revealed that the man was Oscar Rodriguez-Espinoza, a 52-year-old Mexican national, convicted of Attempted Murder and Lewd or Lascivious Acts with Child Under 14 in 2003 out of the state of California.  Rodriguez received an 11-year prison sentence for those crimes.

 

Rodriguez was removed from the United States by an Immigration Judge on Sept. 11, 2012 as an aggravated felon.

 

Rodriguez is being held in federal custody pending further criminal prosecution.

 

The second incident occurred on Saturday, Sept. 28 at around 2 a.m., when agents assigned to the Calexico Station encountered a man suspected of illegally entering the United States approximately one-half mile east of the Calexico West Downtown Port of Entry.  Agents arrested the man and transported him to the El Centro Station for immigration and criminal history screening.

 

Agents conducted records checks, which revealed that the man was Jose Alonso Vazquez-Ramirez, a 27-year-old Mexican national, convicted of Sex with Minor: Perp 21+ Victim -16, in 2013 out of the state of California.  Vasquez received 120 days in prison and five years of probation.

 

“I am proud of the work accomplished by my agents,” said Acting Chief Patrol Agent Ryan J. Scudder, “These two dangerous men are off our streets and are no longer a threat to the members of our community.”

Vazquez was removed from the United States on Sept. 13, 2013 as an aggravated felon.

 

Vazquez is being held in federal custody pending further criminal prosecution.

 

In fiscal year 2019, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents have arrested and removed 25 individuals either convicted or wanted on sexual assault charges after they entered the United States illegally.
