Border Patrol Arrests a Felon Gang Member in California
CALEXICO, CALIF.—U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Calexico station apprehended a dangerous gang member attempting to make an illegal entry into the United States today.
Border Patrol agents observed a 35-year-old Mexican national, later identified as Jose De Jesus Salazar-Gomez, as he entered the United States illegally from Mexico at approximately 2 a.m. Agents arrested Salazar without incident before he could reach nearby neighborhoods of downtown Calexico.
Salazar was transported to the Calexico Border Patrol station, where it was revealed he was an active member of the "Florencia 13" criminal street gang out of Los Angeles, Calif, with a previous felony conviction for first degree burglary. Records indicated he had served a two year prison term after being convicted of this crime.
Salazar is in Border Patrol custody and will be presented for prosecution for re-entry after being previously removed from the United States.
