Border Patrol Apprehends Convicted Rapist

YUMA, Ariz. — Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents apprehended a Mexican national yesterday convicted for rape in 2008.

Agents conducting checkpoint backup operations near Interstate 8 stopped a 2006 Nissan Altima and discovered four Mexican nationals being smuggled by two U.S. Citizens. While processing the suspects at the Wellton Border Patrol Station agents learned that one of the subjects, Arturo Escobedo-Piedra, was convicted for 3rd degree rape in Curry County, Oregon, and sentenced to 90 days in prison plus 36 months of probation.

The vehicle and subjects are being processed by Wellton Station agents.
