Del Rio, Texas —U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Brackettville, Texas station apprehended a convicted sex offender on Thursday.
Agents working linewatch duties south of Brackettville near Highway 277 apprehended David Sanchez-Rios, 58, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico. During processing, agents discovered that Sanchez-Rios had been convicted in Seguin for “sexual abuse against a child/fondling” and subsequently deported. Sanchez-Rios had also been arrested for terroristic threats, unlawful carrying of a weapon and aggravated kidnapping.
Sanchez-Rios faces a charge of illegal re-entry and his prior order of removal will be reinstated.
The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is part of the South Texas Campaign, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations. So far during Fiscal Year 2014, which began Oct. 1, 2013, Del Rio Sector agents have apprehended 11 sex offenders. During FY13, Del Rio Sector agents apprehended 18 previously deported sex offenders.
