Border Patrol Agents Seize Abandoned Marijuana

Release Date
Tue, 01/10/2012

YUMA, ARIZ.—Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents seized approximately 141 pounds of marijuana Monday night valued in excess of $70,000.

Wellton Station agents patrolling west of Gila Bend discovered eight bundles of abandoned marijuana in a desert wash south of the interstate. After searching the area and finding no suspects, the marijuana was seized for destruction per Yuma Sector guidelines.

The Yuma Sector has been effective in combating smuggling organizations and their ability to transport contraband throughout the United States. The probabilities of arrest and associated penalties have caused smugglers to often abandon their drug loads rather than risk apprehension and prosecution.
