Del Rio, Texas - U.S. Border Patrol agents seized 762 pounds of marijuana, worth more than $600,000 Wednesday.
Border Patrol agents working in the Vega Verde area of Del Rio made the seizure Wednesday morning, after they noticed several suspicious subjects along the Mexican bank of the Rio Grande River. Agents observed the subjects as they began transferring what appeared to be contraband across the Rio Grande River, utilizing an inflatable raft. After the smugglers unloaded the rafts contents onto the U.S. riverbank, the agents moved in. Upon seeing the agents, the smugglers immediately bolted for the river and absconded to Mexico. The 20 bundles were found to contain marijuana which was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
