Eagle Pass, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the processing center at the Eagle Pass South Station discovered a previously deported man falsely claiming to be the father of a juvenile Guatemalan national, Nov. 30.

“We receive cases all the time in which criminals will manipulate families and provide false promises to get what they want,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Raul L. Ortiz. “Thanks to the attentiveness of our agents, this ongoing investigation crippled this man’s attempt to disguise himself as the child’s father.”

During processing, record checks revealed the 35-year-old Guatemalan, had a used a different name when he was previously deported earlier this year. Agents investigated further and discovered that the man was not the father of the 15-year-old. Necessary precautions were taken to ensure the child’s safety and he was processed as per CBP guidelines.

The adult male will face a charge of 18 USC § 1001- fraudulent statement or representation, and if convicted could receive up to five years in prison.

To report suspicious activity call the Del Rio Sector’s toll free number at 1-866-511-8727.
