Border Patrol Agents Halt Human Smuggling Attempts

LAREDO, TEXAS—Laredo Border Patrol agents rescue 84 undocumented immigrants in three separate human smuggling attempts.

On June 6 and June 9, Border Patrol agents assigned to the IH-35 Checkpoint were alerted to possible hidden people or contraband during the inspection of a tractor-trailer by an agent with a service canine. The driver was referred to secondary inspection for further inspection. On June 6, a total of 35 undocumented immigrants were discovered in the unventilated cargo area and on June 9, a total of 30 more. Medical assistance was offered to the undocumented immigrants however, none accepted.

Also on June 9, Border Patrol agents assigned to the Freer Station received an assistance call from the Live Oaks County Sheriff's Department. A total of 18 illegal aliens were found inside a U-Haul truck and turned over to Border Patrol agents.
