El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents apprehended a gang member today who was attempting to make an illegal entry into the United States west of the Calexico Port of Entry.
While performing line watch duties, Border Patrol agents observed a man later identified as Gustavo Enamorado Mendoza as he illegally entered the United States at approximately 6:00 a.m. Agents responded and arrested the man 12 miles west of the port.
He was transported to the El Centro Border Patrol station for processing. Agents then discovered he was a member of the notorious “Mara Salvatrucha” (MS-13) criminal street gang.
Enamorado, a 21-year-old Honduran National, is in Border Patrol custody and will be further processed for his illegal entry into the United States.
Last fiscal year, El Centro Sector had 14,511 apprehensions.
