USBP Rangeley Station RUMFORD, Maine – On Thursday, October 15, the United States Border Patrol detained seven individuals from two separate traffic stops conducted by the Rumford Police Department.

Border Patrol Agents were called for backup Thursday morning after a traffic stop conducted by Rumford PD.  Agents ran record checks and determined that four of the five passengers were illegally present in the United States.

Soon after, Border Patrol agents were called to assist on a second traffic stop after Rumford PD stopped a vehicle for driving erratically.  The passengers of the vehicle could not speak English.  After questioning the passengers and running records checks, Border Patrol agents determined that the individuals were of Brazilian nationality and not legally present in the United States.

“Circumstances such as these remind us why multi-agency support is an important practice in our communities.  The actions of the officers and agents involved prevented a reckless driver from potentially harming those who share the same roads,” said Robert Leroux, Patrol Agent in Charge of Rangeley Station.

All subjects were turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Office of Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO).
