ELY, Minn — On the morning of January 22, 2019, a U.S. Border Patrol Resident Agent from Ely, MN responded to a report of a snowmobile accident with injuries.
The Agent and a Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer assisted a Lake County Sherriff’s Deputy to the area of Glipi Road and Fernberg Trail and found the accident site. The Officers and Agent guided the ambulance crew to the location and helped prepare the 15 year old victim for transport. The victim was airlifted to a hospital in Duluth, MN for treatment of a suspected femur fracture.
U.S. Border Patrol agents routinely patrol the northern border of the United States utilizing snowmobiles and other Off Road Vehicles. This enhances their ability to detect and deter illegal activity in remote areas along the border.
“Border Patrol Agents stand ready to assist our partners and the community whenever needed. This is especially important in the remote areas that we routinely patrol,” said Acting Patrol Agent in Charge Erich Rohr.
Grand Forks Sector has agents that are certified EMTs throughout North Dakota and Minnesota. All of the agents assigned to Grand Forks Sector work with their state, local, and federal partners to ensure the safety of their communities.
