Border Patrol Agents Arrest Two with MJ and Psychedelic Mushrooms

Release Date

San Diego —U.S. Border Patrol agents patrolling the Interstate 8 corridor last night arrested two men with psychedelic mushrooms and marijuana in their vehicle.

At approximately 10 p.m., agents observed two men in a 1999 Volkswagen Jetta at a Jacumba service station engaging in suspicious behavior.  Agents observed the two men driving erratically throughout the Jacumba area.  The men continued their suspicious behavior as they traveled eastbound on I-8 towards El Centro.  When safely at the bottom of 4000-foot grade located near El Centro, agents initiated a vehicle stop and pulled the driver over.

Agents observed that the 21-year-old passenger had marijuana on his lap and the man admitted he had been smoking it inside the vehicle.  Agents conducted a search of the vehicle and located a cellophane bag of psychedelic mushrooms under the driver’s seat.

Both men were placed under arrest for the possession of a controlled substance and transported to a nearby Border Patrol station for processing.  The men were later transported to the San Diego County jail and face state prosecution.  The vehicle was seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.

To prevent the illicit smuggling of humans, drugs, and other contraband, the U.S. Border Patrol maintains a high level of vigilance on major corridors of egress away from our Nation’s borders.  To report suspicious activity to the U.S. Border Patrol, contact San Diego Sector at (619) 498-9900.
