Mexican National Previously Deported

Del Rio, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a man previously convicted of attempted murder, April 24.

“Hardened criminals often turn to illegal immigration in an attempt to avoid identification and detection,” said Del Rio Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Doyle E. Amidon, Jr. “I’m so proud of our agents here in the Del Rio Sector, they are dedicated to ensuring the safety of our families and communities.”

Agents assigned to the Del Rio Station arrested Juan Reynaldo Rodriguez-Morales, a 44-year-old Mexican national, shortly after he illegally crossed the Rio Grande River near Del Rio. During processing, records checks revealed that Rodriguez-Morales was arrested by San Angelo Police Department for attempted murder in 1993, and sentenced to seven years incarceration. Rodriguez-Morales has an extensive criminal history, and was convicted of felony re-entry into the United States in 2013.

“The men and women of the Del Rio Station continue to impress me,” said Del Rio Station Patrol Agent in Charge Ricardo Moreno. “The security of our nation is our topmost priority, and that begins here in our communities and neighborhoods.”

Rodriguez-Morales will again face a charge of 8 USC § 1326 – illegal re-entry, and his final order will be reinstated. If convicted, he could receive up to 20 years in federal prison.
