DEL RIO, Texas U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Brackettville Station arrested two U.S. citizens and nine illegal aliens during a failed smuggling attempt involving two vehicles.

“Smuggling organizations will continue to exploit desolate areas within Del Rio Sector in an attempt to evade arrest,” said Del Rio Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Randy Davis. “Thanks to the attentiveness of our Border Patrol agents, these criminals will no longer be a threat to our community.”

On May 23, agents observed two vehicles driving in tandem on a remote road near Brackettville. Agents initiated a traffic stop on the first vehicle, a 2019 Dodge Ram truck. After an immigration inspection, agents determined the driver, a 55-year-old female, was attempting to smuggle six illegal aliens. Additional agents immediately followed and performed a traffic stop on the second vehicle, a 2014 Mini Cooper. Agents determined the driver, a 58-year-old female, was attempting to smuggle three illegal aliens. The nine individuals being smuggled consisted of seven single adult males and two adult females, all from Mexico. All subjects were taken to the Brackettville Station where they will be processed as per U.S. Customs and Border Protection guidelines.

The two U.S. citizen drivers both face federal prosecution for 8 USC § 1324 – alien smuggling, which carries a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison.

All individuals apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks utilizing multiple databases including the use of biometrics to ensure those with criminal history are positively identified regardless of their immigration status.

The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is part of the Joint Task Force-West South Texas Corridor, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations. To report suspicious activity call the Del Rio Sector’s toll free number at 1-866-511-8727.
