PRESIDIO, Texas – An agent assigned to the Presidio Border Patrol Station provided emergency medical treatment to a pregnant woman in distress after she surrendered shortly after crossing the border from Mexico.
Big Bend Sector Chief Patrol Agent Matthew J. Hudak said, “Our agents were able to address this emergency situation and administer and secure immediate medical attention for the woman and her unborn child. This reflects the compassion and dedication that our agents have to securing our nation’s borders and providing the best level of care they can.”
On July 25, a Presidio Agent working patrol duties along the Rio Grande River, encountered a pregnant female in distress. The agent, a certified emergency medical technician, addressed the female’s medical needs by collecting her vital signs and initiating intravenous treatment. The female was subsequently transported to Big Bend Regional Medical Center in Alpine, to receive additional medical care.
After further investigation, the individual was determined to be illegally present in the United States and a citizen of Honduras. She was processed according to the applicable immigration laws.
Big Bend Sector has apprehended over 700 subjects during the month of July 2019. The large volume of apprehensions is significant for Big Bend Sector, due to the remote location and modest amount of man power.
