Border Patrol Agent Cepeda Honored by City of Laredo as Veteran of the Month
LAREDO, Texas – On August 19, the City of Laredo honored Border Patrol Agent (BPA) Benigno G. Cepeda by recognizing him as the Veteran of the Month during a city council meeting.
BPA Cepeda proudly joined the United States Marine Corps in 1996 and served four years including overseas duty in Okinawa, Japan, and finished his tour in Camp Pendleton, California. He was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation medal for distinguishing himself through heroic or meritorious achievement or service. He was also recognized for his years of honorable service with the U.S. Marine Corps with the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal.
BPA Cepeda joined the Unites States Border Patrol in November 2006. He is a proud Laredoan, an alumnus of Cigarroa High School, and someone who strives to show his children that with hard work and determination, anything is achievable.
“Like the Marines, the Border Patrol is a brotherhood. We are in danger everyday where every minute you can be doing your job calmly and the next you can be fighting for your life,” said BPA Cepeda during the ceremony.
The Laredo Sector Border Patrol has 479 veterans currently working within the Laredo Sector. Overall, 30 percent of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s workforce is comprised of veterans and due to concentrated recruiting efforts, that percentage is expected to increase.
