Apply now for expedited crossings at borders and airports
DETROIT— Memorial Day weekend marked the start of the summer season in Michigan! Summer season also signals the start of active boating on the Great Lakes and increased, cross border travels. If you cross Michigan borders frequently for business or pleasure, U.S. Customs & Border Protection recommends applying for a NEXUS card for quicker processing at Michigan land borders.
NEXUS is a CBP program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk international travelers upon arrival in the United States. NEXUS also benefits CBP by allowing them to focus efforts on potentially higher risk travelers, thereby facilitating the movement of trusted travelers in a more efficient and effective manner.
"Frequent, cross border travelers and boaters are encouraged to apply for a NEXUS card," said Christopher Perry, Director of Field Operations. "NEXUS card holders enjoy multiple program benefits at both land borders and airports."
NEXUS card holders enjoy benefits non card holders do not such as dedicated lanes, pleasure boat reporting privileges, NEXUS kiosks at airports when entering Canada and access to Global Entry kiosks when entering the U.S. and at Preclearance locations.
Travelers who want to learn more about the NEXUS program can obtain information from the CBP website.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry.
