Baltimore— U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport arrested a U.S. citizen Friday who was wanted by the Travis County, Texas Sheriff’s Office for aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Zachary C. Shewmaker of Fairbanks, Alaska, arrived on a flight from Shannon, Ireland.  CBP officers determined Shewmaker to be subject to a warrant of arrest issued by the Travis County, Texas Sheriff’s Office for aggravated sexual assault of a child.  The officers verified the validity of the warrant and confirmed extradition.  Shewmaker was arrested by CBP and turned over to Maryland Transportation Authority Police for extradition.

“CBP is committed to facilitating legitimate travel; however we stand ever vigilant in intercepting those travelers that our laws identify as needing further scrutiny,” said Dianna Bowman Acting CBP Port Director for the Port of Baltimore.

CBP conducts inspection operations and intercepts currency, weapons, prohibited agriculture products or other illicit items, and on average arrests 22 wanted persons a day at U. S. Ports of entry nationwide.

Travelers are encouraged to visit CBP’s Travel website to learn rules governing travel to and from the U.S.
