DOUGLAS, Ariz. - A Douglas woman was arrested Wednesday for attempting to smuggle 279 pounds of marijuana through the Port of Douglas.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers selected a sport utility vehicle, driven by Yara Flores-Hernandez, 24, for a secondary inspection after a narcotic detection canine alerted to the vehicle.

Officers later found 306 packages of marijuana, weighing 279 pounds and worth nearly $140,000, stashed throughout the vehicle and in the spare tire.

Officers referred Flores to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, and seized the marijuana and vehicle.
